Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Training Courses

Petro Classroom just released five new Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Training Courses. These courses are designed to teach owners, operators and contractors about the operation of ASTs and the regulations and standards that must be followed to stay in compliance and prevent releases. The new courses include:

Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC)

This course provides an overview of SPCC regulations, how to determine what type of SPCC plan your facility requires, and the required contents of an SPCC plan.

AST System Components

This course provides an in-depth look at the components of an AST tank system and common equipment issues that may cause leaks and require regular monitoring, maintenance and repair. The components reviewed include overfill prevention equipment, alarms, monitors, submersible turbine pumps, piping, vents, anti‐siphon equipment and much more. The course covers how various components add functionality, safety and compliance with the law, as well as compliance with recommended practices.

 

AST Common Tank Systems

This course will review the workings of common tank systems and which standards apply to these systems, including:

  • Aviation Fuel Systems – PEI RP 1300-13

  • Motor Fuel – PEI RP 200 and 600

  • Bulk Fuel – PEI RP 800

  • Generator – PEI RP 1400

AST Steel Tank Standards

This course will cover an overview of the different types of ASTs and fabrication standards including American Petroleum Institute (API), Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) established criteria or standards for the manufacture of ASTs.  Some of these AST manufacturing standards that are covered in this course include API 650, UL 142, UL 2085, UL 80 and concrete tanks.

 

AST Fire Codes

This course will review AST fire codes regulating the safe storage of flammable and combustible liquids based on OSHA and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).  The course will provide an overview of NFPA 1, NFPA 30, NFPA 30A, International Fire Codes (IFC) and other requirements applicable to ASTs.
